Install: From another memory card

If you go to events where people have SD Remix Lite, if there’s an active smash community near you that is mod friendly, or if you have a friend (or friend of a friend) willing to install SD Remix Lite to their memory card, you can simply copy their SD Remix Lite save file to your memory card. You can also try requesting if anybody has a copy on an online smash forum that you can use to talk to your local smash community and see if anybody is willing to bring a copy of it to the next local event so you can copy it to your memory card.

To actually copy a save file from one memory card to another:

  • From SSBM:
    • Before powering on the GameCube or Wii, place the memory card with SD Remix Lite in Slot A.
    • Start up SSBM. It should eventually get to the opening movie.
    • Press start at the opening movie to get to the title screen. The memory card should be loaded at this point.
    • Remove the memory card in slot A.
    • Press start at the title screen to go to the main menu. It should tell you that the memory card has been removed, and ask you to confirm if that’s okay (it’s okay).
    • When at the main menu, insert the card you want to copy SD Remix Lite to into Slot A.
    • Go to versus mode and go to a normal match. The game will detect that you’ve inserted a card and ask if you want to either create a new save file (if there isn’t already a SSBM save file on the card) or if you want to overwrite the existing save file (if there is already an SSBM save file on the card). Choosing the affirmative will write the save file to the memory card in Slot A (if there is already an SSBM save file, it will overwrite that save file).
    • After it is done, you can remove the memory card in Slot A and play as normal (SD Remix Lite works fine if you remove the memory card after the game loads, just remember to activate it by going to the name entry screen from the main menu).
  • From GameCube OS:
    • Before powering on the GameCube, insert the SD Remix Lite memory card in Slot A and the memory card you want to put SD Remix Lite on in Slot B.
    • While the system is booting up, there is the GameCube startup animation. During this animation, hold A and it will spin, eventually taking you to the GameCube OS.
    • Press down and it will go to the memory card section.
    • Press “A” to go to the memory card management screen.
    • You can now copy save files from one memory card to another from this screen. You will want to copy the SSBM save file from Slot A to Slot B. Make sure it is the main save file that takes up 11 blocks.
  • From Wii OS:
    • Insert the SD Remix Lite memory card in Slot A and the memory card you want to put SD Remix Lite on in Slot B.
    • From the Wii main screen, select the “Wii” button on the bottom left of the screen to go into “Wii Options”.
    • Select “Data Management”.
    • Select “Save Data”.
    • Select “Nintendo GameCube”.
    • You can now copy save files from one memory card to another from this screen. You will want to copy the SSBM save file from Slot A to Slot B. Make sure it is the main save file that takes up 11 blocks.
